Law raising public health spend to 6% of GDP by 2024 signed off by President

President Andrzej Duda on 1 August signed into law an amendment to the Publicly-funded healthcare benefits act under which public spending on healthcare will rise to 6% of GDP already in 2024 rather than 2025.

Under the amended law, public healthcare spending will amount to at least 4.78% of GDP in 2018 (compared to 4.67% envisaged before the amendment), 4.86% in 2019 (no change), 5.03% in 2020 (no change), 5.30% in 2021 (rather than 5.22%), 5.55% in 2022 (5.41%), 5.80% in 2023 (5.60%) and 6% in 2024 (5.80%).

A phased increase in public healthcare spending to 6% of GDP was inserted into the Publicly-funded healthcare benefits act by MPs for the first time in the autumn of 2017.
