PMR Insight: 20% increase in number of HIV infections in Poland in 2017

According to the most recent data from the National Institute of Public Health – National Institute of Hygiene (NIZP-PZH), 1,526 new HIV diagnoses were reported in Poland in 2017, which is a 20% year-on-year increase. At the same time the number of new AIDS diagnoses came to 120. Men accounted for the vast majority of new HIV cases (1,337) and AIDS diagnoses (106) reported in 2017. It should be noted that of the 1,526 reports of new HIV diagnoses in 2017, 1,193 were identified in 2017, 310 in 2016 and the remainder in previous years (this is because some diagnoses are reported after a delay).…
