President Andrzej Duda on 25 May signed into law legislation that excludes private contractors from performing ambulance work in the NFZ sector. Most of the law’s provisions will become effective 14 days after its publications, but some will be phased in over 2019-2020.
Existing contracts between the NFZ and private contractors will be allowed to run their course until 31 March 2019 at the latest. New contracts will be awarded only to public healthcare entities, or to commercial-law companies majority-owned by local or central authorities.
In another important change, effective from 1 January 2021 each voivodship will have a single, central dispatch station managed by the voivod. The exceptions are Mazowieckie and Slaskie, which will have two stations apiece.
