American Heart of Poland on 1 October opened a new invasive cardiology unit in Poland, lifting the total number of outlets in its network called Polish-American Heart Clinics (PAKS) to 10.
The new clinic is located in Tychy (Slaskie voivodship), on the leased premises of the Voivodship Specialty Hospital. It consists of 10 beds. Apart from diagnosis and treatment of ischaemic heart disease it will specialise mainly in electrocardiology and electrophysiology, including e.g. placement of pacemakers. In the initial period it expects to perform about 500 surgeries per year.
According to Maciej Pruski MD, director of the new clinic, it plans to sign contracts with the National Health Fund (NFZ), as well as provide paid-for services. In his words, the PAKS clinic in Tychy will not compete directly with academic hospitals but will offer an alternative option for patients whose condition is such that they cannot afford to wait the usual time – even up to one year – for scheduled surgery.
