No plans to introduce drug prescription limits for doctors, Slovak Health Ministry says

The Slovak Health Ministry decided not to introduce drug prescription limits for doctors, despite earlier recommendations of government analysts, Sme daily reported.

The Ministry noted that the introduction of prescription limits is currently not planned because it was possible to achieve stabilisation in drug spending thanks to the implementation of e-prescriptions and better monitoring of public health insurance providers over issued prescriptions.

Public health insurance companies paid for prescription drugs €12m less between January and June 2017 than during the same period last year, while the number of issued prescriptions fell by around 180,000.

The Ministry will come back to the idea of introducing drug prescription limits if it turns out they are necessary.
