Slovak public insurers and patients spent over €1bn on Rx drugs in 2016

Slovak pharmacies dispensed over 83 million Rx drug packages in 2016, news agency TASR reported, citing Slovakia’s National Health Information Centre.

Slovak public health insurance providers paid almost €912m for the dispensed Rx drugs, including €18m for the top 10 most frequently dispensed medicines. Patient co-payments amounted to over €141m, with around €8.9m paid for the top 10 most frequently dispensed medicines.

The three most frequently dispensed Rx medicines included analgesic drug Novalgin (nearly 1.5 million packages), high blood pressure drug Agen (782,000 packages) and congestive heart failure drug Concor (780,000 packages).
