Brick-and-mortar pharmacies remain the most common place for buying OTC medicines in Poland – 95% of consumers use this channel.

Pharmacies are also the most popular place for buying dietary supplements and dermocosmetics, however other distribution channels play a slightly bigger role in these two categories than in OTC drugs.

According to our forecasts, the pharmacy OTC market in Poland will grow at a slightly lower rate in 2017 than it did last year, due to a high comparative base. We see the market growing by 8% to reach PLN 14bn. The key growth driver will be a high incidence of influenza – the number of flu cases jumped by nearly 20% year-on-year in the first four months of 2017. Market growth will also benefit from new OTC product launches and from the advertising activities of the manufacturers.
