Basic data on pharma in CEEWhen considering the pharmaceutical markets of the six Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries, Poland is the largest such market in the region. In 2009 the pharmaceutical market in the country (excluding hospital sales) was worth almost €7bn, a 6.5% year-on-year reduction in euro terms (it is worthy of note, however, that there was an increase in local currency and also in terms of volume). In Hungary the pharmaceutical market declined by 6.8% in 2009 in comparison with the situation a year earlier. Among the six countries analysed, the most impressive year-on-year increase, of around 16%, was achieved in the Czech Republic and Bulgaria. The pharmaceutical markets in Romania and Slovakia also grew in 2009 in comparison with 2008 – by 2.1% and 5.3% respectively.
