New bases for calculating health insurance premiums to affect 43,000 people
2010-09-08
The unification of the maximum calculation bases for health insurance premiums will affect 43,000 policy holders in Slovakia; this means that they will be subject to increased premiums paid to the health insurers, according to the analysis which accompanies an amendment to the Public Health Insurance Act proposed by the current Slovak government. The most severe effect will be felt by those earning more than €3,006 per month, a group of some 21,500 policy holders.
The SITA news agency claims that the details of this analysis show that the new maximum calculation base should be five times the average monthly salary of two years ago. However, the actual wording of this amendment quotes a maximum base of three times the average salary for self-employed persons and five times the average salary for employees, employers and self-employed people who carry out their activities along the lines of full-time employment. The SITA did not succeed in obtaining an explanation of the discrepancy from the Health Ministry or the Finance Ministry.
