Polish pharmacy market growth slows to 3.5% in July 2010

In July the Polish pharmacy market (understood as retail pharmacy sales) was worth PLN 2.17bn (€539m), an increase of 3.5% compared with the same period a year ago, according to latest data from PharmaExpert. The rate of market growth thus slowed from nearly 7% y-o-y in June. On a monthly basis pharmacy sales grew by 1.3%.
The highest growth in July was noted in sales of OTC products (a category that includes OTC medicines, dietary supplements, dermocosmetics and other items not classified as medicinal products), which jumped by 7.3% y-o-y. Of this, sales of OTC medicines and dietary supplements rose by 6% y-o-y. Meanwhile, sales of reimbursed medicines were up by 2% compared with a year earlier, whereas sales of fully-paid prescription medicines edged up by 0.7% y-o-y.
Average pharmacy turnover grew by 5.8% y-o-y to PLN 163,000 (€40,500). Compared with June the figure was down by 1.5%.
