Hospital in Opocno to undergo CZK 30m reconstruction

The regional councillors in Hradec Kralove region approved new measures to improve the quality of healthcare in the Opocno Hospital and bring its debt down from CZK 25m (€1m) to CZK 7m (€0.28m), confirmed Jana Tresnakova, the regional councillor responsible for health sector. The hospital is currently in unsatisfactory condition requiring immediate investments, added Tresnakova. The reconstruction works may cost over CZK 30m (€1.2m) and could start later this year.
Despite the opposition from doctors and Opocno town hall, the new plans propose replacing the existing surgery department with inpatient care with new hospital beds for postoperative care. The surgery department was already shut down at the end of June, with only outpatient care unit left in operation.
The measures need to be approved by the regional board of Hradec Kralove region. They should be discussed at a meeting in early September.
