Penta Investments, the private equity investment fund, plans to expand the
Dr. Max pharmacy chain in Slovakia through the addition of ten new pharmacies before the end of the year. Possible locations for the new pharmacies have been identified as Dunajska Streda, Ruzomberok, Spisska nova Ves, Kosice, Zvolen, Poprad, Trebisov, Kezmarok, Ziar nad Hronom and Senica.
Last year 20 new Dr. Max
pharmacies were opened in Slovakia, bringing their total number to 70. In terms of sales revenues, Dr. Max was the second-largest pharmacy chain in Slovakia last year. In 2009 Dr. Max generated sales revenues of €60m while its main competitor on the Slovak market,
Cityfarma Slovakia, generated sales of €100m from its 60 stores. Like Dr. Max, Cityfarma also has expansion plans.
Except for Slovakia, Dr. Max chain is also present in Poland and the Czech Republic.
