Medical training simulation centre to be developed in Brno
2010-03-09
The Czech Health Ministry has announced plans to develop a multidisciplinary medical training simulation centre in Brno. The development is a result of collaboration between the Saint Anna Faculty Hospital in Brno, the faculty of medicine at Masaryk University in Brno and the US-based Mayo Clinic, a prestigious research and postgraduate teaching institution. It will be developed within the framework of the Mayo Clinic project “Global Networking in Advanced Medical Education”.
The centre, which is worth around CZK 700m (€27.29m), is expected to be built between 2011 and 2013 with the help of EU structural funds. It will be the first of its kind in Europe, offering full, complex and multidisciplinary training for doctors and nurses. Complex IT and visual technologies, including a cybernetic patient, will make possible various simulations of situations which may occur during a surgical procedure, in intensive care units or even during a GP’s visit, including a drug overdose. The centre will also help to develop the teaching of new diagnostic and treatment methods, along with patient communication techniques.
