VZP’s unpaid health insurance premiums reach CZK 30bn

The amount of outstanding health insurance premiums which individuals and companies owe to Vseobecna Zdravotna Pojistovna (VZP),the largest obligatory health insurance fundin theCzech Republic, increased by CZK 8bn (€312m) in 2009, according to the Czech business magazine E15. VZP estimates that the total debt now exceeds CZK 30bn (€1.2bn), of which CZK 15bn (€585m) has arisen within the last two years alone.
VZP recently appointed a legal firm to carry out services related to the collection of the debt and estimates that within four years it will be able to collect outstanding payments of CZK 1.6bn (€62.4m).
The 2010 VZP healthcare budget is CZK 150bn (€5.9bn).
