Slovak hospitals reduce amount of unpaid social insurance contributions

At the end of 2009, the total amount of social insurance premiums still to be paid by Slovak healthcare facilities to the social insurance company Socialna Poistovna came to €18.13m, according to the SITA news agency. This is an improvement in comparison with November 2009, when the hospitals owed the insurer €30.35m. The healthcare operators were able to reduce the debts mainly because of the repayable financial assistance provided last year by the Slovak government.
At the end of 2009, the amount owed by state-owned healthcare facilities to Socialna Poistovna came to €9.18m, a reduction of more than €23m in comparison with November 2009. This constitutes 50.6% of the total arrears. The debts of privatised hospitals, owned by regional or municipal authorities, came to €8.95m. This had been reduced by €7.32m in comparison with November 2009.
