2010-03-03
Sopharma, Bulgaria's largest pharmaceutical manufacturer, reported a 10% increase in sales to BGN 520.7m (€266m) in 2009, including a 4% increase in the domestic market and a 16% improvement in international sales, according to unconsolidated preliminary data. Sopharma achieved remarkable sales growth in the Balkan countries and Turkey of more than 280% to €2.3m, followed by the EU countries (35.8%) and Asian countries (36.1%). More modest increases were observed in Russia (11.3%) and the US (6.7%).
Despite the continuing economic recession in Bulgaria, Sopharma reported a 9% year-on-year increase in sales in January 2010. The company's domestic sales improved by 4% in comparison with those of January 2009, whereas the figure for international sales was 11%, largely because of sales in Turkey and Serbia.
