Cardiovascular medicines account for 24.7% of drug sales in 2009

In 2009, 24.7% of pharmaceutical sales in Romania were of cardiovascular drugs, according to Cegedim. There were 98.7 million drug units, worth €356m. Heart disease remains the primary cause of death at a national level in Romania, because of high levels of stress and unwholesome diets.
Gastrointestinal drugs account for the second most common percentage, with 84.8 million units, worth €269m, sold.
