The Slovak Association of Research Based Pharmaceutical Companies (SAFS) has elected its new executive board. Paul Trnovec from GlaxoSmithKline was elected as the new chair of the board. Other board members are: Daniel Weber from Novartis, who is also the board vice-chair, Miroslav Lednar from Sanofi-Aventis, Dana Boehmova from Eli Lilly and Klaus Mittmann from Bayer. Mr. Weber and Ms Boehmova will also be in charge of drug policy, Mr. Lednar will focus on the subject of ethics in marketing, whilst Mr. Mittmann will oversee SAFS activities in the area of public relations and relationships with patients' organisations.
The newly elected chair has said that in 2010 the Association will continue its efforts to make the latest innovative medicines accessible to Slovak patients. It will also work on enhancing ethical behaviour in marketing activities carried out by pharmaceutical companies and building the value of innovative medicines in the eyes of experts and the lay public.
SAFS, founded in 1997, includes international pharmaceutical companies with their research and development of innovative medicines present in the Slovak drug market. Currently, SAFS associates 19 pharmaceutical companies.
