The Dr. Dioszilagyi Samuel hospital and clinic in Mako, in the county of Csongrad, in Hungary, has been granted HUF 300m (€1.11m) from EU sources for modernisation. HUF 120m (€0.4m) of the amount received by the hospital is to be spent on construction work on the emergency unit and helicopter landing pad. HUF 170m (€0.6m) will cover the purchase of equipment, including portable ultrasonic devices, a defibrillator, an X-ray machine, and anaesthesia and respiratory devices. The telecom and IT system is also to be modernised. All of this should be done by the end of the first half of 2011.
The Csongrad local authorities spent HUF 150m (€0.55m) on hospitals in 2009 and intend to obtain several billion forints for healthcare development by issuing bonds.
Tamas Szekely, the health minister, has announced that HUF 450bn (€1.7bn) is to be granted by the EU for healthcare development in Hungary between 2007 and 2013. HUF 320bn (€1.2bn) has already been covered by tenders. The main aim of the developments is to improve the efficiency and quality of state-owned healthcare institutes.
