Sopharma Trading, Bulgaria's largest pharmaceutical wholesaler, has announced that hospitals owe it BGN 55m (€28.1m), of which BGN 26m (€13.3m) is “long overdue”. However, the company has not interrupted deliveries to any of the hospitals. Central Europe Pharma News recently reported that medical equipment suppliers, to which Bulgarian hospitals owe BGN 100m (€51.1m), are in a similar situation. The suppliers have protested about the lack of a clear legal framework for hospital payments and have advocated a period of 60 or 90 days, to be established in the Public Procurement Act as a strict payment term.
