2010-02-22
Biofarm, the prominent Romanian drug manufacturer, has reported sales worth RON 67.1m (€15.8m), a 3% year-on-year increase, and a profit of RON 20.1m (€4.7m) for 2009, according to the preliminary financial results published by the company. Despite this growth, the 2009 result falls 7.8% short of the figure planned at the beginning of the year, when Biofarm announced a sales target of RON 72.8m (€17.6m).
According to Cegedim (which analyses drug sales at wholesale prices), the company’s sales increased by 4.45% last year in terms of value but declined by 4.95% by volume.
During the year Biofarm exerted significant efforts to boost its sales against a background of decline on the drug market and of deterioration in the business environment on the Romanian pharmaceutical market. The producer launched one new product in 2009 and extended its product portfolio to 167 drug names from the 130 it had at the end of 2008. Marketing and sales costs grew to 16.6% of net sales, in contrast to the 15.4% of the previous year.
Biofarm remains the leader in 10 therapeutic areas on the Romanian market.
