Bulgaria is one of the seven European Union countries to have begun testing the “Virtual Patient”, a new system of online post-operation follow-up consultations for patients. This is designed to reduce costs and doctors’ workloads by allowing patients to have online consultations with doctors and social workers. The system is to be implemented in Bulgaria in 2011.
The programme, which is also being tested in the UK, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Hungary, received €1.8m of EU grant.
