Online sales of OTC medicines proving popular among Slovak internet users
2010-02-09
One-third of Slovak web surfers have bought medicinal products or
dietary supplements online during the past six months, according to a GfK Slovakia survey. The survey revealed that 56% of the Slovak population search the internet for information on health and medical treatment, with women using the internet for this purpose more frequently than men. Slovak citizens are well-informed about the possibility of buying drugs online and they also know that only non-prescription medicines and medical devices are available by means of this distribution channel.
Seventy-seven percent of internet users believe that the possibility of acquiring
OTC medicines online is a positive development. They consider the purchase of medicines via this route to be relatively safe, but they are less convinced about the possibility of extending it to prescription products.
As
Central Europe Pharma News reported on a previous occasion, since 1 December 2009 Slovak pharmacies have been allowed to offer OTC medicines online if they have received a special permit from the Health Ministry.
The survey was carried out at the beginning of January and involved 509 persons of between 15 and 61 years of age.
