Bucharest CNAS paid RON 50m for reimbursed drugs sold in June 2009

The Bucharest division of the Romanian Health Insurance House (CNAS) at the end of January paid to pharmacies the amount of RON 49.5m (€12m) for reimbursed drugs sold in June 2009. The CNAS announced that the next reimbursement payments will be paid in accordance to the 180-day period as it is stipulated by the law.
In 2009, due to the difficult economic situation in Romania and a decline in the collection of health insurance contributions, the Romanian government prolonged the refund period for reimbursed drugs to 180 days, instead of 90 as was the case before, and to 90 days rather than 60 for drugs which are covered by the national programmes to combat AIDS, diabetes and cancer and are paid for in full by the government. But in spite of this measure payments to pharmacies in 2009 were often delayed further .
