Slovakia to take part in European Health Examination Survey
2010-02-04
Slovakia will be one of 30 countries which will take part in a pan-European project known as the European Health Examination Survey (EHES), according to the TASR news agency. The aim of the study is to measure the state of health of the EU population by means of harmonised methodology, and to allow a comparison of data. Slovakia – together with 14 other countries – will also take part in a pilot study pertaining to the project, which will start later this year. In the pilot, a sample of 200 citizens will be weighed and measured and will have their blood pressure taken. Other examinations carried out during the study will include the measuring of cholesterol and glucose levels in the blood.
The core part of the EHES project will be carried out after the data from the initial study have been analysed, in 2011 and 2012.
The overall project will involve the examination of 4,000 citizens from every country taking part in the EHES. The survey will be coordinated by the newly established EHES reference centre in Helsinki.
