Hospinvest, the former operator of the Hungarian state-owned hospitals, which is currently in the process of being liquidated, has not yet repaid its debts of HUF 3bn (€11.1m). According to the liquidator of the company, the repayment has not been made because Hungary’s National Health Insurance Fund (OEP) transferred money for the funding of the hospitals to the new operator instead of Hospinvest. Legal action was taken against OEP by Hospinvest, and the case continues. However, the outstanding amount could cover only wages and supplier payments, but not the repayments due to the bank.
Hospinvest, which was established in 2000 for the private operation of Hungarian hospitals, has been in the process of liquidation since mid-2009. The company declared itself bankrupt after its credit bank, CIB, used funds transferred to HospInvest by the OEP for healthcare services to repay debts. We have covered this matter on several occasions in Central Europe Pharma News.
