HUF 10bn to be spent on extra pay for healthcare employees

The Hungarian Health Ministry has allocated HUF 10bn (€383.5m) from the 2010 health fund budget to cover extra payments for hospital employees. The extra funds were awarded in December 2009 after strained talks with the hospitals’ directors.
Gabor Csiba, the head of the Strategic Alliance for Hungarian Hospitals, has warned that employee wages should not be paid from an amount set aside for healthcare purposes, as this might cut into healthcare services by 3.5%.
