The Slovak Health Ministry has invited primary healthcare facilities to apply for non-repayable financial aid within the EU Operational Programme on Health. In 2010 a budget of €5.7m in total will be allocated to cover the cost of repairs and modernisation projects relating to the infrastructure and equipment used by primary care clinics involved in the treatment and prevention of the so-called “Group 5” diseases. These are: cardiovascular diseases, carcinomas, external causes of diseases and deaths, and diseases of the respiratory and gastrointestinal systems. The minimum aid for which the clinics can apply is €500,000, and the maximum is €3.5m. The deadline for the submission of applications is 20 April 2010.
Slovakia is one of eight EU Member States included in the EU Operational Programme on Health. Between 2007and 2013 the country is to receive €250m from the European Regional Development Fund to distribute among healthcare facilities. Projects within the Programme are co-funded by the government.
