Medis launches packaging plant in Czech Republic

Medis International, the generics manufacturer and pharma services provider, a subsidiary of
Actavis, has opened a new pharmaceutical packaging plant in Bolatice in the Czech Republic (Opava region). The facility, built at a cost of CZK 200m (€7.7m) and officially opened on 15 December, will package medicines manufactured by a Medis plant in Tunisia, as well as provide packaging services for other pharma companies.
Stephen Lukas, a director at Medis, revealed in an interview with the
Prague Post that the company has already signed up customers such as e.g. Czech operation of
Teva or a Canadian generics maker
Apotex, which has a plant in India.
As for Medis’ products made in Tunisia, two have so far received approval in the Czech Republic, but more are to follow. The company aims to focus on niche products, such as immunosuppresants used for transplants.
