The Czech drug manufacturer Zentiva claims to have no intention of increasing its drug prices in 2010. However, Zentiva’s chairman and CEO, Jiri Michal, has told Pravo that it is difficult to predict whether the final retail price will also remain unchanged, as this depends on the reimbursement levels set by the Czech authorities, in addition to the mark-ups applied by wholesalers and pharmacies.
The company also intends to expand the range of its products, particularly in the area of primary care, as 85% of Czech patients are treated at this level. At present the company’s product portfolio includes drugs used in the treatment of pain, cardiovascular diseases, central nervous system disorders, respiratory diseases and digestive conditions.
Zentiva was acquired by Sanofi-Aventis in 2009 to become the company’s generic drug platform for Europe and to provide wide range of generic medicines offered to both Czech and other European patients.
